What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is the biggest treasure hunt in the world. As a product of Geocaching.com, you can use your smartphone to find ‘treasures’ in nature. Geocaching is fun for young and old. It’s a great opportunity to discover nature on foot and experience exciting adventures at the same time.
Aim of geocaching
The aim is to use your smartphone (or compass) to find the hiding place of a geocache using the coordinates given on the geocaching map on Geocaching.com.
These geocaches are small or large containers with a logbook inside. Once you have found the geocache, you write your geocaching pseudo + date in the logbook. They then return the geocache exactly as they found it. Geocaching involves collecting beautiful micro-adventures, often in the middle of nature.
What do you need for geocaching?
You need the following for geocaching:
✅ A charged smartphone – To find the coordinates of the geocaches.
✅ The geocaching app – Available free of charge at Geocaching.com: Here you will find a map with the hidden geocaches.
✅ An account at Geocaching.com – To view and log caches you have found. You can use a pseudonym. Without account you cannot play geocaching: the card is only visible for members.
✅ Good shoes & weather-appropriate clothing – As the caches are often hidden in nature.
✅ A pen – To sign the cache’s logbook.
✅ Small barter items (optional) – If you want to take something from a cache, you should leave something of equal value.
